Detailed engineering design for the replacement of 8 existing arch bridges (spans 6m to 60m) along the Gibe Bridge–Saja Road Segment under the Jimma Road Network in Oromia, Ethiopia.
Scope
The project covers detailed engineering design for the replacement of eight existing arch bridges along the Gibe Bridge–Saja Road Segment (Package 5) in Oromia Regional State. The structures, including the Adame, Geta, Melka Kersa, Lalo, Chora, Koraku, and Doma bridges, feature spans ranging from 6 m up to 60 m.
Approach
Structure Type Selection
Assessed the project sites and prepared preliminary designs for at least three alternative bridge typologies, comparing structural efficiency, cost, aesthetic value, and site conditions.
Engineering Analysis
Performed detailed geometric, structural, hydrology, and geotechnical modeling for all eight bridges utilizing MIDAS (Modeling, Integrated Design and Analysis Software) alongside pavement design for the corresponding approach roads.
Outcome
Contract Documentation
Produced detailed construction drawings, technical specifications, design calculations, Bills of Quantities (BOQ), and engineer’s cost estimates.
Environmental Planning
Conducted Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA) and integrated targeted mitigation measures with quantified items in the BOQ.
Final Delivery
Prepared the final, comprehensive tender document for Ethiopian Roads Authority approval.
