Detailed Engineering Design of Melka Jebdu–Diredawa Industrial Park Design and Build Road Project

Detailed engineering design of 10 bridges and drainage structures for a 7.5 km 3-lane design-and-build corridor in Dire Dawa, Ethiopia.

Scope

TACT undertook the detailed engineering design of 10 precast longitudinal stringer bridges (with cast-in-place deck slabs) and all drainage structures for a 7.5 km design-and-build road project connecting Melka Jebdu to the Dire Dawa Industrial Park. The corridor design accommodates 3 vehicular lanes, a 2 m bicycle lane, and a 3 m pedestrian path.

Approach

Structural Isolation

Provided detailed statical calculations to isolate the main vehicular bridges from the parallel pedestrian and bicycle paths.

Software Modeling

Conducted structural analysis and design modeling using MIDAS Civil Bridge Design Software.

Hydrological Analysis

Performed detailed hydrological and hydraulic studies to calculate design discharges.

Outcome

Documentation

Delivered the Inception, Hydrology, Structure Type Selection, Geotechnical, and Detailed Engineering Design Reports.

Drawings & Bidding

Produced complete construction drawings, detailed cost estimates, and prepared complete tender documents.
